The NutriSavings program consists of an advanced digital platform, which offers expansive nutritional data to help identify healthy choices. Users can access relevant nutrition education, from healthy recipes and articles to nutrition label analysis on foods they purchase. When health plans or employers desire to further encourage healthy behaviors, they may offer their plan members cash back on healthier foods, including fresh produce and whole grain items through the NutriSavings program. Such offers are particularly valuable to shoppers when coupled with Walmart’s already low prices.
While savings offer an immediate benefit, NutriSavings believes that incentivizing healthier purchases and educating consumers on nutritious choices will address the rising obesity and chronic illness epidemics, an effort that could positively change consumers’ shopping behavior and reduce healthcare costs over time.
Current research* confirms that more than one-third of U.S. adults are obese and fail to eat enough fruits and vegetables. Lack of nutrition has been linked to chronic conditions including heart disease, diabetes, and more. NutriSavings’ collaboration with Walmart shows how companies can work together to benefit their consumer population, and on a larger scale, influence America’s movement towards better health.
“NutriSavings believes that learning about which healthy foods to buy leads to better nutrition, which can improve peoples’ lives and help reduce healthcare costs,” says Gerard Bridi, CEO of NutriSavings. “We’re proud to work with a company whose mission statement aligns with our desire to improve the health and well-being of employees and their families across the country.”
NutriSavings is available to employees through their employer’s eligible health plan provider as an opt-in benefit. Beginning June 15th, members of the program can register for a NutriSavings rewards card eligible for use at over 4,000 Walmart stores across the U.S. NutriSavings card carriers can select special food offers online or through NutriSavings’ mobile app, and earn cash back savings for each shopping trip. Shoppers can check with their employers to understand if their health plan includes the benefit of NutriSavings, and if so, sign-up for a NutriSavings rewards card.
