“We built PatriotList.US because we observed an eroding security situation in the U.S. for our active duty and veteran families,” said Colin Supko, PatriotList.US CEO. “We saw a tremendous opportunity to serve the nation’s 22 million military families and veterans by creating a safe peer-to-peer marketplace. This platform de-risks buying, selling, and trading by connecting our users with other verified members of our trusted community.” (Photo: Business Wire)
Founded in 2014 by CEO Colin Supko, PatriotList.US offers a safe alternative to the shadowy world of online and mobile marketplaces. The app uses an identity verification service that has access to government databases to ensure every user on the platform has a valid connection to the U.S. Department of Defense, Department of Veteran Affairs and other government agencies.
Supko, also a Navy SEAL Commander, hatched the idea for the startup while deployed to the Iraqi city of Fallujah in 2004. One afternoon a fellow warrior, visibly distraught, walked into the command center after a satellite phone call home. He informed Supko that his wife had been robbed at gunpoint while attempting to sell an old family car through an online classifieds site. The moment prompted Supko to consider why there wasn’t a safer way for military families to buy and sell things.
“We built PatriotList.US because we observed an eroding security situation in the U.S. for our active duty and veteran families,” said Supko. “We saw a tremendous opportunity to serve the nation’s 22 million military families and veterans by creating a safe peer-to-peer marketplace. This platform de-risks buying, selling, and trading by connecting our users with other verified members of our trusted community.”
Through strategic partner ID.me, buyers and sellers provide information, like their government email addresses, which Patriot List uses to cross-references against government records. Once a user is verified, they can begin using PatriotList.US to buy and sell everything from couches to cars. Other security features include seller ratings and in-app payment options.
“Unlike the most commonly used marketplaces in the United States, where anonymity and safety concerns remain constant, trust and reliability are inherent to our military and veteran communities,” said Supko. “PatriotList.US disrupts inefficient social selling groups with a sleeker, safer solution.”
Available on iOS and Android devices worldwide, PatriotList.US enables users to take a picture of what they want to sell, then upload it using the app in under 30 seconds. Communication between buyers and sellers is done through in-app messages, while payment options include PayPal, in app escrow, and cash. All transactions end with a rating system similar to Uber. This fast-growing marketplace app is set to become the safest local marketplace in the world.
Having completed a successful pilot program in Los Angeles, the company is launching an aggressive marketing campaign focused on West Coast military and veteran communities.
