As Tal Meiron, director of Big Data Solutions at WE-Ankor explained, the firm has in the past engaged in other projects utilizing other distributions of Hadoop but ran into issues around complexity and lack of enterprise features. “With the launch of our first dedicated big data team within WE-Ankor, we have chosen to standardize on MapR because of the value it brings in terms of simplicity, ease of administration and ability to seamlessly utilize common NFS based capabilities such as snapshots and mirrors.”
Meiron believes that by using the MapR Distribution for Hadoop its clients can reduce the need to expend additional resources retraining staff or recruiting specialized developers to bridge the gap between Hadoop and commonly understood data storage technologies. “MapR provides the enterprise ready features we need from day one of a project and we have started to work with a number of clients within the defense and telecommunications industries,” he added.
