AUSTIN, Texas–(BUSINESS WIRE)–December 11, 2013–

Austin-based Apptive, a mobile commerce solution offering do-it-yourself iPhone and Android apps, announces a second tranche of funding that brings its total amount raised to just over $1 million.

Apptive’s cloud-based EasyApp platform enables online merchants to economically create a native m-commerce app that integrates with their online store in minutes. According to new estimates from eMarketer, m-commerce represented just 3% of the $260 billion e-commerce market in 2011 and is expected to account for 25% of e-commerce sales by 2015.

This new funding allows Apptive to grow partnerships with industry leading e-commerce platforms and expand reach to online merchants. “With close to half of time spent on e-commerce sites coming from smartphones and tablets, online merchants understand the importance of taking their stores mobile,” says Chris Belew, Co-Founder and CEO of Apptive. “Prior to Apptive, developing a native m-commerce app meant spending thousands of dollars and dealing with endless complexity.”

After exiting Beta and officially launching EasyApp in the Spring, Apptive began to seek relationships with leading e-commerce platforms. The first four partnerships established, Bigcommerce, Volusion, 3dcart and Shopify give Apptive access to nearly 160,000 online merchants. Apptive complements these partners, integrating their core e-commerce functionality and providing compelling mobile-only features like real-time flash sales for merchants.

Apptive’s first partner integration with Bigcommerce, launched in early Summer, has driven strong demand. More than 70% of Bigcommerce merchants who create an app on the Apptive platform go on to purchase and publish the app for their customers to install. Apptive has seen the install count of m-commerce apps created on its platform grow from 1,500 in June to over 27,000 through the first part of December, a 1700% increase.

“Apptive is a really exciting addition to my marketing toolbox,” says Tahnee Elliot, owner of TC Elli’s, a Bigcommerce powered online store and Apptive customer. “My boutique clothing store is in a college town where I’d estimate over 90% of my customers are smartphone users. Giving them a super easy way to interact with my store from their smartphone and gaining a new direct communication channel with push notifications has been awesome.”

Apptive launched with Volusion and 3dcart at the beginning of November and is slated to launch with Shopify by the end of the year. Prior to any partner launch, Apptive spends up to three months ensuring seamless integration with the partner’s back-end so online merchants can manage the mobile sales experience without any extra work. “Each partnership represents a chance for Apptive to become the go-to mobile commerce solution for thousands of online retailers,” notes Belew.
